Children are meant to be happy in their childhood; if not happy, normal at least. That will make sure that they will not have a hard time becoming responsible adults when they grow up. Legos and Jigsaw puzzles are fine, but they need more for them to see beyond what circumstances they are mired in. And in instances where money won’t let them leave the four corners of a place they call home, the best resort would be books. But there is something better than that: the audio book. This will not only enhance their comprehension skills but let them practice a skill that even most adults lack: listening.

Here are some great free downloadable children’s audio books that would give you no reason why your child can’t have the time of his life going places and creating planets of his own while seeing realities even adults must have not ventured into:

Classic Tale of Rumpelstiltskin
Lovers of the classics would like to give their tot the Rumpelstiltskin audio book. If you think you want to have a version with a more relevant theme to the present, then go for the Brothers Grimm latest version. It’s always the right time to let your child know that evil lurks in every nook and cranny and how rewarding it is not to veer off from the wrong path, even if your mother gave you a ridiculous name like Rumpelstiltskin.

The Nose That Ran Away
This is based on an original Russian classic tale by Nicholai Gogol titled The Nose. It might be too early to teach him modesty, but it would truly stick to his mind that being a little snobbish won’t hurt; but when you simply have your head up in the air, you might not have a nose to go with it.

Let your child experience chocolate as one of the greatest pleasures on earth. Like Aesop’s fables, your child will have his initiation to social control, responsibility, and social structure. Too many great things that you can get from an old time favorite: the chocolate.

There are also many original stories that have not been published widely but are worth the read. With these audio books, you are giving your child the chance to experience something that may be surreal for others but really happening in places most people have not known of. As they say, good books are great alternative for travels that may be too costly for some people.
