Can People With Minimal Computer Skills Really Make Money With eBooks?

Not that long ago I was asked if someone who doesn’t have a lot of computer skills can still make some money with an eBook publishing business. The answer isn’t as clear as I’d like for it to be, mainly because people have different levels of computer skill. So let’s talk about who I think can and cannot be successful with an eBook publishing business.
First, it’s important that you have relatively consistent access to the Internet. Odds are if you’re reading this article you already have a fairly reliable Internet connection, so no need to worry about that.
Second, it’s important that you be able to perform basic computer functions like cutting and pasting. If you’re not sure what that means, then you need to spend some time brushing up on some basic computer skills. Also, it’s important that you be able to send and receive e-mail as well as have come familiarity with basic web browsing skills.
For most people, they either have (or can acquire) the skills necessary to successfully operate an eBook publishing business. What’s often forgotten is that you need to have a viable day-to-day schedule and game plan that you follow on a consistent basis. Without those two things, you can have all the computer skills in the world and still spend a lot of time spinning your wheels on needless trial and error.
Here’s the bottom line: you don’t have to be a computer expert to make money with eBooks. However, do you need some basic skills (such as the ones described in this article) to maximize your odds of success.

Under the Dome by Stephen King – Audio-book Review

I could not resist listening to Stephen King’s new audiobook, Under the Dome, despite the daunting task of thirty four hours of listening. The audiobook is pure Stephen King and narrated excellently by Raul Esparza. Apparently, King started the book back in the 1970s, only to return to finish it now.
In Under the Dome, King does what he does best – show us just how despicable and wicked people can be. The monsters here are human, and they are terrifying.
He starts us out in the beautiful small New England town of Chester’s Mill. It is peaceful and beautiful. It is the perfect small American town. Then it all changes in the flash of a crash into a force field like dome that has trapped the town under an impenetrable barrier.
The town is isolated and unable to reach the outside world. Death follows immediately with plane and car crashes. No one knows what’s happening or how to break through the dome. What is this invisible dome? Why is it happening? Why here? Why now? That’s when the local population starts going bad.
King uses his skills to send the local population into a tailspin of sinister action and frightening turns. Fear, conspiracy, corruption and even murder start to terrorize the town. Vicious characters take control. A virtual dictatorship ensues with full on police control. The population of Chester’s Mill is frozen with fear, and as usual that is a trigger for people doing things they would never even think about under other circumstances.
Terror and an internal battle for control naturally arise from the tension and out of control situation. It is a battle of Evil versus not so evil that shows us just how ugly people can get. It is a battle for their lives, with people doing anything and everything terrible you can imagine. With breath taking horror, just when it seems the sort of good guys might win, King pulls the rug out from under them yet again.
This audiobook is a frightening ride into terror and horrible actions that only humans can inflict upon one another. Once you start listening, you will be addicted to the story and power through this marathon performance.
My last warning, don’t start listening to the performance of this audiobook unless you have some time on your hands. Uncomfortable though the performance may be, it’s thirty four compelling and suspenseful hours of listening, but once you start, it quickly becomes impossible to stop.

It doesn’t matter how great the audio quality is or how cheap the downloads are unless the club has books that you want to listen to. The big players today have a wide selection, but you will find some that have locked up audiobook rights in exclusive deals, so before you sign up, make sure that the club has audiobooks by your favorite author.

Harry Potter Audio Books

Who in the world doesn’t know about Harry Potter? Some may have not seen the blockbuster movies – starring Daniel Radcliffe as Harry and Emma Watson as Hermione Granger, among a cast of new young actors and award-winning veterans – but a survey shows that 87 percent of people the world over have certainly heard about Hogwarts’ celebrated wizard and his breathtaking adventures.
This juvenile fiction, created by Joanne K. Rowling or simply J.K. Rowling, has lured not just the kids but even adults too. In fact, some middle-aged fans have become avid Potter-heads and collectors of Harry Potter memorabilia and everything that has to do with the literary and cinematic phenomenon.
They’ve read the books and watched the movies (except for the finale, which is still in the making), and they’re buying the audio book version too. Children are meant to be happy in their childhood; if not happy, normal at least. That will make sure that they will not have a hard time becoming responsible adults when they grow up. Legos and Jigsaw puzzles are fine, but they need more for them to see beyond what circumstances they are mired in. And in instances where money won’t let them leave the four corners of a place they call home, the best resort would be books. But there is something better than that: the audio book. This will not only enhance their comprehension skills but let them practice a skill that even most adults lack: listening.

Why Should We Download Audio Book Titles?

I guess it’s a funny old world when people enjoy reading using their ears rather than their eyes! The ability to download audio book titles has proven to be very popular, especially for those who feel too busy to find time to put their feet up, pour a glass of wine and have a good old ‘traditional’ read. But it’s not a popular trend with everybody.
Detractors moan that audio book CDs are too bulky, they get lost easily and you need a CD player to hand. The actor reading the story might not have the ‘right’ kind of voice and this is off-putting (especially if you’ve built up an ‘internal’ voice in your head already). We also hear that they’re a threat to traditional reading skills.
However, this ignores the broader spectrum: audio books open up great literature (and factual writing) to a wider audience and, as we live in the computer age, there are many different quick, cheap and convenient methods of delivery. Every town seems to have a new multimedia outlet springing up, providing all kinds of software and hardware audio products. But maybe the greatest advancement is in the ability to download audio book titles.
The most common route to follow is to download the audio book as an MP3 (although there are propriety formats which are often designed to restrict the amount of copying that can be done). MP3s are in common use and can be stored on your computer’s hard drive, burned onto a CD or DVD or transferred onto an iPod or MP3 player (for those who like to listen to ‘War and Peace’ whilst jogging!). The beauty of this method is that the original ‘master’ file is still on your hard drive, so if you lose your MP3 player or scratch your CD, you can still listen to your audio and transfer it to another medium when you’re ready.
With the introduction of the new iPod phones (and the clones that will follow by other manufacturers) downloading audio books will become even more popular. Imagine being able to make a call, take photos, listen to music AND listen to your favourite Harry Potter novel all on one small, portable device!
The best way to download audio book titles, then, is to join a subscription service. The companies providing this service have proliferated greatly over the last few years and most provide a reasonably priced and hassle-free download of your books. Joining these services need not be expensive and is not difficult to do. Browsing their extensive catalogue of fiction and non-fiction titles is one of my favourite activities, akin to wandering around a huge bookstore in town, but without all the crowds!
I realize it can be difficult choosing an online service for your audio books, but there are review resources on the internet (which you should definitely check out) and most of the companies offer free trial periods where you can evaluate their service and try out their systems and quality of books BEFORE you commit any hard cash.
So, there really is no excuse not to download audio book titles and try out what is going to be a hugely popular way to digest literature in the future!
