I used to dread the time I have to spend on my treadmill several times a week.
It really was a love/hate affair.

It’s not that using a treadmill is all that difficult, painful or uncomfortable.

Actually, audio books have been around for more than 50 years in the form of

Visually Impaired.)

Later, public libraries began to offer books on tape. With the CD explosion that
occurred in the Fall of 2003, it was inevitable that audio books would begin to be
produced on CDs. Although CDs had been around for a number of years, it was
in the Fall of 2003 that most new automobiles came with CD players instead of
audio cassette players.

After that, most audio products were being produced on CDs instead of audio
cassettes, though some vendors produced both formats.

Now, most public libraries offer a large selection of audio books on CDs. Department
stores do as well. And of course, there are abundant websites that offer an even
bigger selection of audio books on CD, often at a considerable discount.

What is really new, however, is the trend toward offering downloadable
audio books online. This provides the added benefit of immediate availability in
addition to the lower price that is made possible by the very low cost of production
and distribution compared to the traditional method. There is a near zero cost of
production and distribution. The vendors main costs are the acquisition of the
product license and advertising.

The increasing prevalence of high-speed Internet connections has made it practicable
to download the large files required for CD-Quality audio books.
